World Book Week

Thursday sees the celebration of World Book Day, where schools across the country and world join to show their appreciation of reading.

At Rosendale, our love of reading extends past World Book Day and our celebration last throughout the week.

The children will be decorating their classroom doors to represent a book cover; taking part in a sponsored read; finding unusual places to read in ‘You read where?’; creating a lasting design for the oil drums outside the Library Bus; teaming up with a buddy class to become ‘Buddy Readers’, and most importantly dressing up as a book character for Thursday, World Book Day.

The Librarians will be visiting Brixton Ritzy Cinema for ‘The Greatest Book Show in the World’…Listen to their review on the Radio on Friday.

Don’t forget that you will be able to spend your £1 voucher at Pea Green Boat Books book stall in the playground after school.and of course……most importantly…come and see the Library Bus after school every Wednesday when it is open from 3.30 to 4.15.

The story of the Library Bus travels across the country

The news of our wonderful Library Bus has been spreading across the country.

We regularly have schools contacting us about visiting the bus and asking how we undertook the transformation, so on Friday, we held our first open afternoon with four schools from around the country visiting our library.

They were able to chat to Dave Weatherly, our premises officer, who was there when the bus arrived and worked with our parents to transform the shell, parents who continue to work on the bus today, and Miss Tyler who overseers the Library today.

The afternoon was a great success and the visitors were inspired by the enthusiasm that we have for reading and our bus.

If you are a school, who is looking for inspiration to transform a tired library and would like to visit the Library Bus, please contact sarahtyler@rosendale.cc
